Frédéric Chopin composed his Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35 between 1837 and 1839 during his years in Paris, a period marked by artistic maturity and personal fragility. The famous “Funeral March” was written earlier and later incorporated into the sonata. Its dark, dramatic character reflects Romantic-era fascination with death, contrasting with moments of lyrical beauty.
